Turning Point Inc. ( formerly the Pawtucket Boys Club ) Group Home was established by the Pawtucket Boys Club in 1973 by the Pawtucket Boys Club with the assistance of the Pawtucket Model Cities.  After two years of research and planning the program secured the endorsment of the Mayor and the city council.  Turning Point opened its doors  on December 10, 1973.

MISSION STATEMENT

The purpose of Turning Point is to help abused and neglected adolescent males.  Our program is designed to help these young men build confidence, develop character and aquire the skills needed to become productive, civic-minded adults.  We do this by providing a caring and nurturing enviroment.  We believe that within a structured,  treatment oriented setting each child will be able to reach their optimum potential.

LOCATION

Both sites are located in the heart of historic Pawtucket Rhode Island, affording easy access to schools, churches and varied recreational facilities.  The locale enhances the opportunity to secure employment for those youths who express a desire and manifest the requisite responsibility.

RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM

The 13 room home for this community based program is located on the periphery of Pawtucket's business district.  The primary objective is to provide residential services for adolescent males  ages of 12 through 17.

SUPERVISED SEMI-INDEPENDENT APARTMENT PROGRAM

Our supervised apartment program is a 3 bedroom home located near Slater Park.  This program houses males ages 17 and older and bridges the gap between adolescence and adulthood.  Youths considered must display a history of emotional and behavioral stability.  Current Turning Point Residents will be given priority consideration for this program.

STAFF

Turning Point employs a professionally trained and experienced staff familiar with a wide variety of behavioral, emotional and academic problems.  Implementation of the program begins with an initial evaluation which is completed within 30 days from admission.  The evaluation provides a base line from which objectives and treatment plan are developed and implemented.

As members of the community, the residents are afforded the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational, recreational and cultural programs.  All residents attend school locally with staff providing supplementary and remedial academic assistance.

All Turning Point staff are trained in the Handle with Care Behavioral Managment System and are CPR/First Aid certified.

CLINICAL SERVICES

The program provides a clinican licensed at the independent level which may include a licensed psychologist, a licensed mental health professional, a licensed independent social worker or a licensed marriage and family therapist.  The clinician will have weekly individual and group contact with each resident and provide consultation to staff, DCYF caseworkers and the resident's parent or guardian.  Family therapy will also be provided when appropriate.  The clinician will also provide consultation with other mental health professionals, school personnel and assist with crisis intervention while making appropriate treatment referrals.
